The "LIDAR" Project
The "LIDAR" Project, which is funded by FEMA through DCA is a three fold project which began in March 2001 and will end in September 2004.   Thirty-five participants attended the meeting and included an inter-disciplinary team from various departments and institutions including: International Hurricane Research Center, Virginia Institute for Marine Science, FIU Department of Earth Sciences, FIU Department of Computer Science, FIU Department of Architecture, and the GIS Laboratory located in FIU's Green Library.  The four tasks outlined under this multi-million dollar project are airborne laser data acquisition for participating counties (Miami-Dade, Broward, Manatee, and Palm Beach), storm surge model comparison, computer animation, and public awareness.
